INCREMENTAL MODEL
The Incremental model(Evolutionary model)breaks down a system into several modules or functional units that can be incrementally implemented & delivered. In the first increment ,offten called core product, the basic requirement are addressed but many supplementary features remain undelivered. The core product is used by the customer. As a result of the use(Evolution) a plan is developed for the next increment. The plan addresses the modification of the core product to better meet the needs of the customers & the delivery of the features & functionality. This process is repeated until the complete product is produced.
Advantage:-
1) As the user gets the chance to experiment with the partly developed system, much before the fully developed version is released, the incremental model facilitate to get the exact requirements of the user for the fully developed system.
2) Also, the core product get thoroughly tested, thereby reduced the chances of errors in the final product.
3) Early increments can be implemented with fewer people. The core product is well received ,then additional staff(if required) can be added to implement the next increments.
Dis-advantage:-
The main dis advantages of the successive version model is that, for most practical problems it is difficult to sub-divide the problems into several functional units that can be incrementally implemented or delivered. Therefore this model is useful only for the large problems where it is easier to identify modules for the incremental implementation.
